Fatal Road Crash in Ogun State Claims Four Lives, Leaves Others Injured
A devastating road accident occurred on Thursday evening at the Enugada area of Lafenwa, Abeokuta, resulting in the loss of four lives and leaving several others injured.
According to eyewitnesses, a truck with registration number AAA 86 XX experienced brake failure while descending from Itoku enroute Enugada, Lafenwa, and collided with two commercial motorcycles (DE 968 V and AAB 387 VP) and a Honda CRV (EKY 857 GU) at approximately 8:30 pm.
The driver and motor boy of the truck were nowhere to be found after the accident. Operatives from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) promptly responded to the scene, evacuating victims, clearing road obstructions, and managing traffic.
TRACE Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident and attributed the cause to mechanical brake failure. “Two motorcyclists and their passengers were killed in the crash, while the driver of the Honda CRV sustained injuries,” Akinbiyi stated.
Initially, six people were presumed dead, including the injured Honda CRV driver and a pedestrian. However, thanks to the swift response of first responders and bystanders, they were revived.
The bodies of the victims and the injured have been taken to a hospital, whose identity will be disclosed later.
Akinbiyi advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are properly serviced and major mechanical components are in good working condition before embarking on journeys.
