Federal Government, NLC to Hold Crucial Meeting to Address Looming Industrial Action

The Federal Government and Nigerian Labour Congress NLC will meet today September 18, 2023
to resolve issues over the looming industrial action.
Olajide Oshundun, Director of Information at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, announced the meeting in a statement on Sunday. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, invited the Nigerian Labour Congress for another meeting to address their planned indefinite strike.
The minister, who directed the Department of Trade Union Services and Industrial Relations to convene a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress for Monday, September 18, 2023, said it was important that the unions sit with the government to resolve all pending matters to avert further disruption to the economy
The Minister emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration will engage with organized labor, address concerns through consultation and negotiations, to ensure industrial harmony for the Renewed Hope Agenda.
A source confirmed that the NLC will meet with the Federal Government on Monday and will attend the meeting to listen to what the government has to say.
According to reports, the Federal Government’s latest invitation comes after the NLC ended its two-day warning strike. The strike was in response to the removal of fuel subsidy and the increasing hardship and suffering across the country.
The NLC had issued a notice for a two-day warning strike to protest the severe suffering and impoverishment across the country. They threatened a total shutdown of the economy within 14 working days or 21 days if the government didn’t address the hardship.
