Federal Government Takes Swift Action to Address Soaring Food Prices, Combat Hoarding

In response to the escalating cost of staple foods in the markets, the Federal Government is actively addressing the issue, as announced by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris. Speaking at the 2024 conference and annual general meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Idris assured the public that practical measures are underway to ameliorate the situation.
During the conference, themed “Public Relations in a Challenging Environment: The Role of Stakeholders and Communication in a New Niger Agenda,” Idris, represented by Malam Jibrin Ndace, Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), revealed that President Bola Tinubu has directed the National Security Adviser (NSA), Department of State Services (DSS), and Inspector General of Police (IGP) to collaborate with state governors in curbing the activities of those hoarding food commodities to ensure effective price control.
Commending Niger State Governor Umaru Bago for his prompt decision to halt bulk buying and hoarding of food items, Idris acknowledged the positive impact on reducing the cost of food items in the state. He emphasized the government’s commitment to economic improvement, security enhancement, foreign direct investment attraction, and the reinforcement of Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives globally.
On a broader scale, the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda underscores its dedication to ensuring Nigeria’s resilience as a leading African nation. Meanwhile, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, former Governor of Niger, expressed optimism about the revival of NIPR and envisioned the chapter becoming a trailblazer in the field.
