Federal Government Unveils Plan to Construct Student Hostels in 36 Tertiary Institutions Nationwide

The Federal Government has unveiled plans to construct student hostels in 36 tertiary institutions across Nigeria, with a commitment to building more as part of ongoing efforts to improve student accommodation.
Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), revealed this during a meeting with the new leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by its President, Lucky Emonefe.
Echono emphasized the government’s dedication to addressing the housing challenges faced by students in higher institutions. He stated, “As I speak, this year, we shall be providing hostels for students in 36 tertiary institutions across the country.” He further outlined the government’s policy to ensure that a significant percentage of students reside on campus, with the aim of providing quality accommodation comparable to international standards.
Acknowledging the importance of student involvement in educational initiatives, Echono urged students to leverage TETFund’s digital services platform for accessing educational resources and research materials. He highlighted various services available to both public and private tertiary institutions in the country, including sponsored mobile internet access and plagiarism checking tools.
In response, NANS President, Lucky Emonefe, commended TETFund’s efforts and pledged to support and monitor the implementation of the hostel construction projects. He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to education and Senator Ned Nwoko for the Senate Committee’s support.
