Female Students Assault Peer Over Alleged Boyfriend Snatching in Ogun State

A female student of the Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa (formerly Gateway Polytechnic, Igbesa), was reportedly assaulted by her peers over allegations of snatching someone’s boyfriend.

A viral video circulating on Wednesday shows several female students flogging the victim with long, thick canes.

They claimed their mothers were aware of their actions, saying they do not care about who the victim involved or reported the case to.

The victim was left with visible injuries on her back and head.

Despite some students pleading with one of the attackers, identified as Lolade, to stop the assault, she refused, saying the beating was meant to teach the victim a lesson.

Reacting to the video, the Ogun State Police Command said it has launched an investigation.

In a post on X on Wednesday, the command confirmed that the Igbesa Divisional Police Officer has taken over the case.

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that it is fully aware of the incident and is actively investigating the assault. According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Igbesa has taken over the case and is currently leading efforts to identify and apprehend all individuals involved.

Authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that no act of violence or breach of public order will be tolerated, especially within educational institutions. The police further emphasized their commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and maintaining law and order in the community.
