FG to Halt New Projects for 2025, Prioritizes Existing Roadworks – Minister Umahi

In a town hall meeting held in Calabar, Minister of Works David Umahi announced that the federal government will not initiate new capital projects in 2025.

The focus, he emphasized, will be on completing existing projects, particularly the coastal highway from Calabar to Lagos and other federal highways, including the Calabar-Uyo road.

“We will resist going into new projects in 2025. We want to pay attention to the coastal highway from Calabar to Lagos. We also want to complete other federal highways, especially the Calabar-Uyo road,” Umahi stated during the meeting with stakeholders.

The Minister expressed frustration over the slow progress on the Calabar-Uyo road and issued a stern warning to the contractor, Julius Berger. He gave the company a seven-day ultimatum to resume work or face contract termination. “If they don’t return to site, we will terminate the contract. We won’t tolerate contractors playing tricks on our road construction,” he warned.
