FG Welcomes Super Falcons, Celebrates WAFCON 2024 Triumph

The Federal Government has warmly received Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their victory at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Rabat, Morocco.

 

In a statement by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government praised the team’s win as not just a sporting feat, but a powerful symbol of Nigerian resilience, excellence, and unyielding spirit.

 

The Super Falcons emerged as champions after a fiercely contested tournament, further solidifying their reputation as Africa’s most decorated women’s football team and writing yet another golden chapter in Nigeria’s football legacy.

 

“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and the entire Federal Government, I commend the players, coaches, and technical staff for their bravery and dedication. You have lit a fire of inspiration for a new generation of Nigerians and shown how sport can unite and uplift a nation,” the statement read.

 

Minister Idris reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to sports development and to empowering Nigerian athletes, pledging continued investment in resources and platforms that enable them to thrive.

 

As part of the celebrations, the team will hold a victory parade from the Abuja City Gate through Eagle Square to the Presidential Villa, where President Tinubu will formally receive them.

 

The government also called on citizens to show up in large numbers to honor the Super Falcons, whom the minister described as “our national heroines” and “true champions of Africa.”

 

“The Super Falcons have flown Nigeria’s flag with pride and brought joy to millions. Welcome home, champions of Africa!” the statement concluded.
