Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA, has reportedly put forth a substantial proposal for a revision in the schedule of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, slated to be held in Morocco. Following the recently concluded 2023 edition in Ivory Coast, hailed for its on-field accomplishments and global viewership success, Infantino is seeking significant adjustments.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation President, Fouzi Lekjaa, received the host country’s flag during the winners’ ceremony, marking the transition to the 35th edition set to be hosted in Morocco in 2025. Sources suggest that a conversation between Lekjaa, Infantino, and CAF President Patrice Motsepe touched upon potential modifications to the tournament schedule.

Reportedly, Infantino proposed two alternative timelines for the upcoming AFCON: either hosting it in March 2025 or considering a postponement to January 2026. The urgency in Infantino’s request is highlighted, emphasizing the need for a prompt decision to facilitate necessary adjustments to football calendars and engage in discussions with international stakeholders.
