Five Arrested for Fisherman’s Murder in Ogun State
Ogun State Police have apprehended five suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of fisherman Segun Sikiru in Iwopin town, Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area. The suspects, all community members, are Saheed Mureni, Afeez Mureni, Saheed Taidi, Thompson Samuel, and Ogoji Olorunwa.
According to reports from Daily Post, Sikiru and his two sons had gone fishing when they discovered the suspects stealing from their fish trap. The suspects allegedly attacked Sikiru with a bamboo stick, striking him in the chest, while his sons managed to escape.
Omolola Odutola, Police Command spokesperson, revealed that the arrest was made by Abigi Police Division operatives on Sunday following a family report. Odutola stated that Sikiru tried to raise an alarm upon spotting the suspects, but they attacked him, striking him in the chest. After realizing he had lost consciousness, they threw him into the lagoon.
The police have recovered Sikiru’s body and taken it to a mortuary in Ijebu-Ode for autopsy. Investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder.
