Mrs. Helen Owie, the wife of former Senate Chief Whip Senator Rowland Owie, has passed away. Her husband announced her death in a statement on Wednesday, revealing she was 71 years old.
Helen Owie died peacefully in Abuja on April 9, 2025, following a short illness.
In his heartfelt tribute, Senator Owie reflected on their loving partnership that spanned over 50 years, stating, “When Helen came into my life more than five decades ago, she created a warm and welcoming home. She united my family and cared for my late mother, Aghatise Owie, with deep compassion and honor.”
He praised her unwavering dedication to their family and friends, noting that her faith, strength, and grace held everyone together during their time together.
Senator Owie described Helen as a devoutly religious woman, a skilled resource manager, and a devoted spouse and mother. He said, “Helen was a true devotee of the Blessed Virgin Mary, embodying humility, kindness, and selfless service. She was my rock, my source of peace, and my partner in all aspects of life. Her quiet strength and steadfast faith formed the foundation of our family.”
The family statement confirmed that Helen is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and a wide network of loved ones whose lives she profoundly impacted.
Senator Owie requested prayers for Helen’s peaceful repose and invoked the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, asking that she envelop Helen in her heavenly embrace and present her gently to the throne of grace.
