Four Hospitalised After Vehicle Plunges Off Bridge in Ogun

Four individuals were hospitalised on Tuesday after a vehicle veered off the Sapon Bridge in the Abeokuta area of Ogun State and landed on a commercial taxi.

 

According to an eyewitness identified simply as Tunde, the incident happened in the early hours of the day when a black Toyota Camry lost control and plunged from the bridge onto the taxi below.

 

He said the female driver of the Camry sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

 

Tunde said, “A serious accident occurred at Sapon this morning. A Camry fell from the bridge and fell on a Micra car. The driver of the Camry was seriously injured and was taken to the hospital.”

 

Confirming the incident,spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, disclosed that six people were involved in the crash.

 

He added that four of the victims sustained severe injuries and were rescued at the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.

 

“A serious RTA occurred after Kemta Oloko involving a black Toyota Camry with registration Number BWR 148 PN and a Nissan Micra with registration Number GBE 517 ZC were involved in the accident.

 

Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred when the driver of the black Camry lost control while navigating a bend on the Sapon Bridge. The vehicle skidded off the bridge and landed on a Micra taxi that was waiting at a traffic light beneath the bridge.

 

According to spokesperson Akinbiyi, six people were involved in the accident—four women and two men. The four women sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken to the State Hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, for treatment.

 

A similar incident occurred on April 7, causing panic among commuters and passersby when a private vehicle fell off the Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in a post on X, confirmed that the driver was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital. The agency attributed the crash to excessive speeding.
