Former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has tipped France as the top contender for the Euro 2024 championship, citing the return of star midfielder N’Golo Kante as a significant boost for Les Bleus.
Oliseh, who has been following the tournament closely, believes that Kante’s inclusion in the squad is a game-changer for the French team. Kante, who had been absent from international duty for two years, was recently recalled by France’s manager Didier Deschamps for the ongoing Euro 2024 campaign.
“The ‘Gigantic Alien of Football’ is back! It was a pleasure to watch one of my favorite defensive midfielders of all time, Ngolo Kante, return to international football for France,” Oliseh commented on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday. “I now feel France is a real favorite to win the Euros.”
Kante, who currently plays for Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad after his transfer from Chelsea, played a crucial role in France’s 1-0 victory over Austria in their opening match of the tournament. The 33-year-old midfielder was a key player in France’s 2018 World Cup-winning squad and his performance against Austria has reignited hopes for another major tournament victory.
France’s national team has consistently been a formidable force in international football, and Kante’s return has added to the optimism surrounding their Euro 2024 campaign. His ability to dominate the midfield and provide stability both defensively and offensively makes him a pivotal player for France.
