Friends of Ronzls Foundation Annual Quiz and Spelling Bee Competition 5.0 – Grand Finale

The grand finale of the Friends of Ronzls Foundation Annual Quiz and Spelling Bee Competition 5.0 was held in a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere at SLGEA NUT COOP. Hall, Makun, on June 4, 2025. The event gathered students, teachers, parents, special guests, and dignitaries, all united by one goal — to celebrate academic excellence and inspire the next generation.

The event commenced with an opening prayer led by Rev’d Emmanuel Okanlawon, followed by an opening speech from the founder and host, Chief Mrs. Ola Sulaimon. She expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to host such an impactful event, celebrated the students being honored.She emphasized her passion for giving back to the community and helping the students unlock their full potential. Special recognition was given to the teachers for their immense contribution to the success of their pupils.

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including His Royal Highness Oba Musiliu Oriyomi Soile, the Radanuwa of Idado, who honored the children with his royal presence and also represented the Akarigbo of remo land,Also in attendance was the keynote speaker, Mrs. Anifowose Kehinde Olasunkanmi, Director of School Services at Ogun SUBEB, alongside Venerable Akinlawon of the Anglican Church, Aiyepe.The hall was also filled with proud parents, dedicated teachers, and enthusiastic supporters who came to cheer on the young finalists.

Recall that the competition kicked off on May 16, 2025, with the Remo North preliminaries held at St. John Primary School II, Iperu. Ten public primary schools competed in spelling and quiz rounds. At the end of the session, Fatai Temitope and Onabanwo Sarah emerged as the two finalists representing the zone. The event set the tone for the rest of the competition and highlighted the Foundation’s commitment to uplifting pupils in public schools.

The academic face-off featured rounds in Spelling Bee and Quiz Competition, covering English Language, Mathematics, Basic Science, Computer Science, and General Studies. The energy from the audience was electric, and the students gave remarkable performances throughout.

During the prize presentation, students were recognized not only for reaching the finals but also for displaying exceptional skills during the competition. Honored students included:Goodness Daniel, Philip Precious, Obago Success, Salaudeen Aisha, Onome David, Arebe Hamdalah, Alagbala Abdul Ameed, Adegoke Sukurat, Ada Rose, Benjamin Goodnews, Hassan Daniel, Fatai Temitope, Onabanwo Sarah, Ibrahim Nifemi, Yussuf Nofisat, Bankole Ruth, Ademodun Ronke, Omolabi Shurab, Matthew Veronica, Adetayo Festus, Oyedele Samuel, and Valentine King.

After an intense and inspiring competition at the Friends of Ronzls Foundation’s Annual Quiz and Spelling Bee Competition 5.0, the day ended on a triumphant note for three outstanding pupils who rose to the top. Taking home the 1st place prize was Matthew Veronica from African Church Primary School, Ewu-Oloja. Her remarkable composure and brilliance across all rounds earned her the crown and a grand reward of ₦100,000 cash prize,a school bag, and an award plaque. She stood beaming with pride as the crowd erupted in applause.

Coming in 2nd place was Alagbala Abdul Hameed of UAMC Primary School, Eleja, who gave a tough fight throughout the contest. For his outstanding performance, he received ₦60,000 cash prize,an award plaque, a school bag, and additional consolation gifts that lit up his face with joy.

In 3rd place, the ever-confident and articulate Bankole Ruth from Local Government Primary School, Makun made her school proud. Her efforts were rewarded with ₦40,000 cash prize a dictionary, and other thoughtful consolation prizes.

Though only three stood at the top, the day was a celebration for every single student in attendance. Whether they made it to the finals or not, each student went home with gifts and educational materials, a testament to the foundation’s commitment to encourage and reward learning at all levels. It wasn’t just a competition,it was a beautiful reminder that every child’s effort counts.

As the final prizes were handed out and photographs captured the smiles of proud winners, teachers, and parents, the atmosphere was filled with joy, gratitude, and celebration. The curtains slowly drew on what had been a memorable and impactful day. The Friends of Ronzls Foundation had not only hosted a competition, but had planted seeds of confidence, hope, and excellence in the hearts of every child present.

In an emotional interview, Mrs. Theresa, teacher of the 1st-place winner, shared how proud she was of her pupil, Matthew Veronica-a hardworking girl from a humble background. She thanked the foundation for empowering underprivileged children and acknowledged the life-changing impact of the support given.

Mrs. Anifowose Kehinde Olasunkanmi, keynote speaker, described the competition as a mind-opening experience for pupils and emphasized its importance in motivating them toward academic excellence.

Babatunde Ola Osidele, who led the competition committee for the Friends of Ronzls Foundation, affirmed the transparency of the event and noted the steady improvement in pupils’ academic performance over the years.

In a touching moment after the final prize was awarded, Chief Mrs. Ola Sulaimon, founder of the Friends of Ronzls Foundation and host of the event, shared her heartfelt reflections. She spoke with visible pride and emotion, expressing deep gratitude for how far the competition had come. “This year, we expanded to over 70 schools and 210 pupils, just to give more children the chance to shine,” she said.

She emphasized that her mission has always been about impact, not just awards. “Many of these children are underprivileged, but today they are being celebrated. I believe this competition helps them discover their strengths, build confidence, and dream bigger,” she added.

Chief Mrs. Sulaimon also gave warm recognition to her team, calling them her “family” and praising their hard work behind the scenes. “None of this would be possible without my team. They give their all, and I’m so grateful to each of them,” she said with a smile.

For her, the event was more than a competition — it was a platform to uplift, empower, and leave a lasting mark on every student who walked through the door.
