The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has apprehended 8,592 traffic offenders for committing 179,165 offences across the country from April to June 2023. The arrests were made pursuant to the Corps’ commitment to making highways safe. The Corps Public Education Officer, ACM Bisi Kazeem, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Monday. During the period, 64,544 drivers were educated, and 5,431 motor park rallies were conducted. The Corps also organised 1,950 community visits to consolidate on existing enlightenment campaigns.

In addition, the FRSC stopped 210,404 Road Traffic Offenders (RTOs) while 45,335 were cautioned against all manner of non-compliance with traffic regulations. The Corps intensified its enlightenment and sensitisation campaigns by conducting 286 television and 2,431 radio programmes to reach the mass population of the motoring public. The FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, called on the motoring public to always heed established traffic regulations and avoid behaviours that could trigger crashes on the roads.

The Corps’ commitment to making highways safe is commendable, and the recent arrests made show that they are making progress towards achieving their goal. Public education campaigns and community visits are also essential in sensitising the public on the importance of obeying traffic regulations. It is imperative that the motoring public heed the call to obey traffic regulations to avoid crashes on the roads.
