Galadima Condemns School Closures, Slams Government’s Failure on Security and Technology Use
Buba Galadima, a leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, has condemned the closure of schools in parts of northern Nigeria in response to rising insecurity, calling it cowardly and a shameful failure of government duty.
During a broadcast on ARISE News’s Prime Time, Galadima stated that recent mass abductions in Niger State and other northern communities highlight the government’s failure to prioritize citizens’ safety.
He criticized the decision to shut down schools, emphasizing that instead of abandoning educational institutions, authorities should focus on strengthening their protection. “It’s shameful for the government to close schools,” he remarked. “They should be safeguarding them instead.”
Galadima accused leaders of neglecting their responsibilities, asserting that most of their time is spent on politicking rather than addressing insecurity. “Leaders should spend no more than six hours on leisure; the rest should be dedicated to security efforts. That’s what’s missing,” he said.
He also criticized the government’s reliance on brute force without utilizing intelligence or technology effectively. Citing a Chinese example where CCTV systems recovered a stolen bag across airports within hours, he pointed out Nigeria’s failure to deploy such technology seriously. “We’re only interested in power and money,” he added.
Galadima claimed security agencies had intelligence about bandit movements before the latest attack in Niger State but failed to act promptly. “They had detailed information about their route—yet nothing was done,” he said.
He condemned soldiers at the affected school for allegedly abandoning their post, suggesting they should face court-martial and punishment.
Finally, Galadima called for an urgent overhaul of Nigeria’s outdated security strategy, advocating for the use of advanced technology to detect threats early and the formation of specialized squads to respond swiftly to emerging security challenges.
