Gov. Abiodun Launches Strategic Leadership Training Program for Ogun Workforce at Awujale Institute
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has urged senior officials within the state’s civil and public service to prioritize integrity and accountability, lead by example, and meet the expectations associated with their roles.
Governor Abiodun made this appeal during the inauguration of a five-day training program titled “Strategic Leadership and Management Course” held for Permanent Secretaries, Principals-General, General Managers, Clerks of the House of Assembly, Auditors General, Executive Secretaries, and Heads of Professional Bodies at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance Studies (NIPSS-OSKASOGS) at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor emphasized the importance of these leaders setting high standards and maintaining transparency, responsibility, and a service-oriented mindset, as citizens look up to them for guidance.
Expressing gratitude to the dedicated professionals who form the backbone of the state’s Public Service, Prince Abiodun noted that this training fulfills a promise to enhance the state’s administrative capacity. He highlighted that this group of participants would be the first to receive training at the Institute.
“This initiative reflects our administration’s commitment to reinforcing the Public Service as a catalyst for development,” he stated.
The governor acknowledged the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, for facilitating the establishment of the institution at Olabisi Onabanjo University and thanked President Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu for endorsing the institution’s transition to NIPSS. He also praised the Institute’s leadership for designing a relevant curriculum that equips participants with essential skills for effective service delivery.
Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, Ogun State’s Head of Service, thanked the governor for his ongoing support to improve the public service in the state. He reiterated that a well-prepared and knowledgeable public service is critical for governance and sustainable development.
“This Strategic Leadership and Management Course demonstrates the Governor’s commitment to capacity building and excellence within the Public Service,” he remarked, assuring that the investment in developing human capital would yield positive governance outcomes and enhance operational efficiency across various agencies.
In a goodwill message, Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, hailed the training program as vital for advancing public service, adding that Lagos would adopt similar initiatives for better service delivery. He commended Prince Abiodun’s proactive approach to enhancing public service collaboration between the two states.
Other speakers, including Engr. Adeniyi Abiola, former Head of Service Princess Iyabo Odulate, and Chief Oluneye Okuboyejo of the Governor’s Elders Advisory Council, underscored that good governance is key to societal sustainability. They praised the governor for his quality leadership and his focus on worker wellbeing through technology-driven training programs offered by NIPSS, encouraging participants to engage actively and share insights.
Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, represented by his daughter, Princess Adetoun Adetona, celebrated the training’s launch as a realization of his vision for leadership development, while the Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Oba Abdul-Razak Adenugba, expressed gratitude for the establishment of the Awujale Institute as a legacy for future generations.
Earlier, both Prof. Sola Adeyanju, Director of NIPSS-OSKASOGS, and Prof. Ayodeji Omotayo, Director General of NIPSS, recognized the vital impact of leadership and management in societal transformation. They expressed confidence that the training would pave the way for participants to contribute significantly to a more sustainable and prosperous Ogun State.
The comprehensive five-day training will cover essential topics such as Public Policy Design and Development, Leadership Practices, and Emotional Intelligence for Leaders in Public Service, among others.
