Government Trains 350 School Inspectors
The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has strengthened the capacity of its officials to improve monitoring and enforcement of educational standards.
Speaking at the opening of a four-day training workshop for about 350 evaluators on Monday in Lagos, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, underscored the importance of professionalism in carrying out their responsibilities.
He urged the officers to be firm, objective, and courteous in their interactions with school owners and administrators, noting that they should be seen as partners in progress, guiding institutions to meet the state’s educational benchmarks.
Also addressing the evaluators, the Coordinating Director of OEQA, Remi Abdul, stressed that professionalism and integrity must remain central to effective quality assurance operations.
He said the theme of the workshop, “Strengthening Professionalism and Integrity for Effective Quality Assurance Operations,” was strategically chosen to underscore the importance of integrity in carrying out evaluation exercises.
“Our responsibility goes beyond compliance checks. It is about modelling excellence, upholding standards, and reinforcing the confidence of stakeholders in the Lagos State education system,” he said.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Basic and Secondary Education, Opeyemi Eniola, implored participants at the workshop to sustain the tempo of excellence for which Lagos State had been known over the years.
He urged the evaluators not to compromise on excellence, reminding them to continue setting the pace by upholding the quality of education that has made Lagos State a model and point of reference for others across the country.
In his keynote address, the Director of General Nigerian Studies at Lagos State University, Ojo, Prof. Mohammed Babatunde, applauded the government for organising the training, describing the theme as both timely and strategic in protecting the future of education in the state.
