Heavy Protest Rocks Sagamu, Banks, Private Shops Destroyed, Roadblock Mounted

In the early hours of Monday, 20th of December 2023, indigents and people of Sagamu came out en masse to protest heavily the scarcity of the New Naira Notes and the lackadaisical attitude the government is taking to salvage the current situation.

Roadblocks with burning tires were mounted and major roads in the city became inaccessible as commuters, secondary school students and business people were sent back to their different houses.

The Akarigbo road had the heavy presence of protesters as both union bank and Keystone bank along the area was destroyed. The Automatic Teller machine of both banks broken, with youths claiming banks are also part of the hardship as they’ve decided with government officials not to dispense the new Naira Notes.

All efforts to calm the situation proved by men of the Nigeria police proved abortive as they seem to be overpowered by the protesters.

As of the time of filing this report, protesters were seen matching to the IBEDC office. They claim to go and show their grievance to how inconsistent electricity supply has been in the city.
