The passing of Sir Chief (Dr.) Harold Adesina Wilde on August 18, 2025, at the age of 85, marked the end of an era in the lives of many who cherished his kindness, faith, and leadership. In his honor, a series of heartfelt memorial and funeral services were held in late September, celebrating his remarkable life, unwavering faith, and profound impact on family, friends, and the community.
The journey began with a wake keep service on September 28, 2025, at the family residence. Attended by close relatives, friends, church members, and community leaders, the event was a touching tribute to Sir Harold’s legacy. The service opened with an opening prayer led by Bishop Rev. Ibikunle, who invoked God’s blessing on all present. Several distinguished bishops from various denominations, including Bishop Rev. (Dr.) M. Olusina Fape, Bishop Rev. (Dr.) Stephen of the Methodist Church, Bishop Rev. S. O. Sowale, and Bishop Rev. B.F.R. Ogunbanwo of Ijebu South West, among others, graced the occasion. Notable community figures such as Ven. E.O Adekanbi, Vice President of Grace Anglican Church, and Rev. E.O Adegbuyi, the Dean, also attended.The program featured a moment of silence in memory of Sir Harold, followed by the singing of hymn 344 from the Diocese of Remo Grace Anglican Church. Scripture readings from Psalms 27, Ecclesiastes 3:1-13, Job 19:21-27, Hebrews 11:8-16, Revelation 7:2-17, and John 14:1-14 were read by family members including his last-born, Mr. Okunsoji; his second-born, Mr. Tunde; his granddaughter, Miss Tinuke; and his eldest daughter, Mrs. Opeyemi. These passages reflected themes of hope, faith, and eternal life.
Throughout the service, heartfelt testimonies were shared. Dr. O. Omolara Smith commended Sir Harold’s caring nature, highlighting his efforts to ensure happiness within his family. Hon. Lanre Oyemade spoke about his devotion to Christianity and his role as a spiritual leader. Community members like Eng. Oyewole recounted how Sir Harold was a beloved neighbor and a pillar of support in the community. Additional testimonials from colleagues and friends painted a picture of a man whose integrity, humility, and faith inspired many.A brief exhortation by Bishop B.F.R. Ogunbanwo emphasized the importance of living a meaningful life aligned with Christ’s teachings. Drawing from scriptures such as Genesis 3:9, Matthew 27:22, and 2 Kings 19:9, he urged attendees to emulate Sir Harold’s example of faith, integrity, and service. The service concluded with a hymn and a prayer, inspiring all to carry forward his legacy.
On September 30, 2025, Sir Harold’s funeral service was held at Grace Anglican Church. The procession entered the church, led by clergy and choir, with family members following. The service was marked by hymns, scripture readings, and a powerful sermon from Rev. Dr. M. Olusina Fape, who highlighted Sir Harold’s impactful life, unwavering faith, and dedication to serving God. Using scriptures like Ephesians 4:8-10 and Proverbs 18:13, he praised Sir Harold’s grace, stability, and love for Christ. The congregation was encouraged to remember his life and emulate his virtues.
Prayers for the family followed, and the choir led the hymn “Awa Yin O Olorun.” A final trumpet salute by the Remo Diocesan Brigade honored Sir Harold’s memory, after which his family expressed gratitude to God for His blessings. The service concluded with a jubilant “Hallelujah Chorus” and a closing prayer, invoking God’s grace upon all in attendance.In addition to the memorial and funeral services.
A Festival of Songs was organized on October 1, 2025, at Innova Events to celebrate Sir Harold’s love for music and his influence on choirs he mentored. MC Okesara, aka Lekeman Otunba Olamilekan, warmly welcomed guests, including clergy from Remo Diocese, Grace Anglican, Methodist, and other churches. Prominent leaders such as Otunba Olugbegan Gbegadaniel Justus, a former governor of Ogun State, attended to honor his memory.
The event featured tributes from family members, friends, and church representatives. Ven. Dr. E. A. Adegbuyi delivered the welcome address, emphasizing Wilde’s devotion to Christianity and community service. The Remo Choir, soloist Tola Adesanya, and church choirs performed melodious songs, including Wilde’s favorite hymn. Opeyemi Wilde, Sir Harold’s daughter, expressed her gratitude for the support received throughout their mourning period. The program ended with a “Hallelujah Chorus,” a presentation by children from Grace Anglican Church, and a closing prayer by Ven. Dr. Adegbuyi.
