During a recent sermon, he stated, “When a church invites me to minister, they are inviting me to serve both God and His people. To me, when I am called to minister to God, I cannot put a price on that service. How much did He charge for His sacrifice on Calvary, which is the foundation of my ministry? This is a deeply personal conviction for me, and it has proven effective, so why abandon what works?”
His comments come in the wake of a viral moment involving Apostle Lazarus, who publicly criticized gospel artists for charging fees at church events. The pastor emphasized that ministry should not be treated as a commercial enterprise, referencing a case where a singer requested a substantial sum to perform for his congregation. This sparked considerable debate and reactions within both gospel and music circles.
In response, fellow artist Timi Dakolo took to social media to advocate for gospel musicians, pointing out the significant financial investment needed to pursue their craft. He encouraged the Christian community to recognize that, aside from its spiritual implications, music is also a profession that warrants fair compensation.
