Ibadan Explosion, Unfortunate and Sad’: Sanwo-Olu Conveys Sympathies to Oyo Government, Victims

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, expressed profound grief over the untimely explosion that occurred in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday. Describing the incident as “disheartening and unfortunate,” Governor Sanwo-Olu extended heartfelt sympathies to the affected residents.
The condolence message, issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, conveyed solidarity and support during this sorrowful time.
Governor Sanwo-Olu conveyed his sympathies to Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State Government for the tragic explosion, which claimed the lives of two individuals and left 77 others injured. The incident, reportedly caused by illegal miners storing explosive devices in Bodija, Ibadan, prompted the Lagos State Governor to commend Governor Makinde for the swift deployment of first responders and relevant agencies.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the deployment of earth-moving equipment, ambulances, emergency lights, and security personnel for comprehensive search and rescue operations at the explosion site. Expressing deep sorrow, Governor Sanwo-Olu remarked, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the Ibadan explosion that led to the destruction of many properties in the vicinity, with records of two fatalities and 77 people injured on Tuesday night at Bodija in Ibadan, Oyo State.”
He further emphasized the pain and concern arising from the alleged involvement of illegal miners, noting their careless and unlawful activities that brought sorrow to numerous families and the State. On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, Governor Sanwo-Olu extended sympathy to the immediate families of the victims and the entire Oyo State community.
In concluding his message, Governor Sanwo-Olu wished Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State, especially the Bodija residents and victims’ families, peace, comfort, and an abundance of love during this challenging period. Assuring Governor Makinde of the unwavering support from the good people of Lagos State, he prayed for divine comfort for the victims’ families and the entire Oyo State community affected by the tragic disaster.
