ICAN Urges New Ogun Executive to Uphold Fairness and Integrity
Members of the 2025/2026 executive of the Mowe and District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) have been called upon to uphold the principles of integrity, fairness, and equity in their leadership.
The charge was given by various speakers during the investiture of Adekemi Adekunle as the eighth Chairman of the district and the swearing-in of the new executive, held on Saturday at the Redemption Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Addressing the gathering, the 61st President of ICAN, Haruna Yahaya—represented by his 1st Deputy Vice President, Felix Osuji—urged the new leadership to stay committed to the core values of the institute while ensuring the welfare of members remains a top priority.
He also highlighted the significant role district societies play in advancing ICAN’s initiatives nationwide.
Osuiji said, “ICAN district societies are the heartbeat of our institute’s engagement. They identify members’ needs and foster community relations. From capacity building to corporate social responsibility initiatives.
“To Mrs Kemi Adekunle and her team, I charge you to approach this mandate with humility and with a deep sense of duty. You have been entrusted with a responsibility that is a call to serve, innovate, and lead.
“Uphold the tenets of integrity, accuracy, and excellence that define ICAN. Be bold and always place the interest of your members above all others.”
He hinted that the institute has begun plans to digitise its examination process by November 2025.
In his speech, the guest lecturer and Rector of the Yaba College of Technology, Ibraheem Abdul, lamented that the lack of integrity and morality in today’s society has worsened the underdevelopment situation.
Abdul noted that despite the advancement in technology, there has been no improvement in morality and integrity.
The rector urged leaders across the various facets of life not to be deterred by the dwindling morality in society but to uphold integrity, fairness, openness, and inclusivity in their various capacities.
He concluded, “I want to say to the new executive and every one of us wherever we are holding leadership positions that we are stepping into leadership at a time when ethics is rare.
“So, your goal is not just to manage the process or maintain standards; your role is to ensure that you champion integrity despite the compromise we have in our society.”
In her acceptance speech, Adekunle noted that her administration would prioritise the welfare of its members and ensure inclusivity.
In her remarks, she said, “This is more than just a title; it is a sacred responsibility to serve. Together, we will forge a path toward sustained growth, relevance, and meaningful contributions to both our district and the accounting profession as a whole.”
She emphasized that her administration would be anchored on inclusivity and collective purpose, ensuring that every voice is heard and every aspect of the district receives deliberate attention and purposeful action.
She outlined her key priorities, which include promoting capacity building, establishing a fully functional secretariat, and engaging in strategic advocacy, among other initiatives.
