IGP Egbetokun Vows to Combat Kidnapping Menace During Ogun State Visit

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, embarked on a three-day official visit to Ogun State, where he pledged to address the escalating cases of kidnapping in the region. Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the State Police headquarters in Abeokuta, Egbetokun assured residents of decisive action to curb criminal activities, particularly kidnapping.

During the meeting, Egbetokun announced the immediate establishment of additional Area Commands in Ifo, Imeko, and Idiroko areas of the state as part of strategic measures to enhance security operations. He underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and the community to effectively combat crime, urging stakeholders to provide unwavering support to the police force.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the Ogun State Police Command, Egbetokun assured prompt attention to address manpower shortages, vehicle deficiencies, and operational logistics needs. He emphasized the imperative of securing the state’s borders and implementing robust measures to tackle the menace of kidnapping effectively.

In his welcome address, the State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, reiterated Ogun’s status as one of the safest states in Nigeria despite security challenges. He expressed confidence that the IGP’s visit would rejuvenate the morale of officers and enhance service delivery standards within the command.

As part of his itinerary, IGP Egbetokun met with Governor Dapo Abiodun and commissioned various facilities within the Ogun State Police Command premises, including the headquarters, technical intelligence unit, and complaints unit. The visit will also include engagements with paramount rulers from Egba, Ijebu, Remo, and Yewa regions, highlighting the collaborative approach to addressing security concerns and fostering peace and stability in Ogun State.
