The acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive ordering all police convoys nationwide to observe traffic regulations. The IGP gave the order when he met with Mobile Police Squadron and commanders at the Force Headquarters. He said that it was important for the police to obey traffic laws and that his convoy would lead by example.

The IGP stated that those who keep the peace must be the epitome of peace and that those whose duty it is to enforce the laws of the land must themselves respect and obey the laws of the land. He emphasized that without obeying the laws, the police lack the moral high ground to interrogate and bring lawbreakers to book. The directive is in line with the IGP’s vision of building a rule-of-law-compliant police force.

The directive is expected to improve the relationship between the police and the public. This move will help to reduce the number of accidents caused by police convoys, which are known to flout traffic regulations. The IGP’s directive will also help to build trust between the police and the public, which is essential for effective policing.
