Iseyin Residents Call on Governor to Intervene in Selection of New Monarch

Residents of Iseyin have called on the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to intervene in the selection of a new monarch for the town. The former Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Abdulganiy Salaudeen Adekunle Oloogunebi Ajinese 1, passed away in July 2022 after a protracted illness, and the selection process for a new monarch has been stalled due to the death of the Aaba Odo Aseyin (Chief Priest).
Although the selection process has commenced, the absence of a Chief Priest has caused delays. The Oro priest, Pa Ashiru Ajala Oroleye, who was responsible for taking another king to Ipebi alongside other chief priests, passed away in May this year.
Solomon Ajeigbe has emerged as the new Aaba Odo Aseyin (Chief Priest), and he would be installed soon. This means that a new king will be unveiled soon, but the selection process has been delayed, causing stagnant economic development in the town.
In a statement, the National President of Iseyin Youths Development Group (IYDG), Babajide Oniyo, appealed to the Governor to help resolve the crisis among the kingmakers and other stakeholders, so as to have another monarch in place within a short period.
He also appreciated the efforts of the kingmakers in ensuring a seamless process to producing the next Royal Highness, but appealed that they bury all hatchets that could further tarry the process. Residents of Iseyin are hopeful that the Governor’s intervention will help speed up the selection process and ensure that the town’s economic development is not affected.
