JAMB Deputy Director, Yisa Usman, Files 150 Million Naira Lawsuit Against Board Over Alleged Wrongful Dismissal
Mr Yisa Usman, the Deputy Director with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has initiated a 150 million lawsuit against the board, alleging wrongful dismissal. The suit, marked NICN/ABJ/266/2023, was filed on September 29, 2023, at the National Industrial Court, Abuja, by his lawyer, Oseini Bamigbaye from the Chambers of Mohammed Shuaibu.
As the claimant in the case, Usman is seeking nine reliefs against JAMB, which stands as the sole defendant. The suit challenges the constitutionality of the Board’s Directorate Staff Disciplinary Committee, contending that it was irregular, illegal, null, and void for failing to comply with Article 3.5.4 of the Board’s Staff Manual and Conditions of Service.
Additionally, Usman is urging the court to declare the composition of the committee unconstitutional and nullify it, citing a significant presence of the Board’s registrar and other directors who allegedly benefited from infractions exposed by him. He argues that such a composition raises concerns about the impartiality of the committee and questions his right to fair hearing.
The legal action reflects Usman’s pursuit of justice and a declaration of the purported wrongful dismissal by JAMB. The National Industrial Court will play a crucial role in determining the merit of his claims and the validity of the disciplinary procedures followed by the board.
