JAMB Registrar urges Nigerians to prioritise education for national growth
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has called for a repositioning of Nigeria’s education sector to reduce reliance on foreign aid.
Oloyede made the appeal in Ibadan during the 595th Inaugural Lecture of the University of Ibadan, delivered on Thursday evening by Prof. Dhikru Adewale Yaboyaju of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, the JAMB Registrar emphasized that national development is a collective responsibility, adding that Nigeria would make significant progress if citizens contributed meaningfully within their capacities.
He further noted that with a properly restructured education system, the country would no longer need to depend on foreign support.
“We will continue to develop as long as every Nigerian makes his or her own contribution.
“Let each of us, in our little way, contribute to the development of the nation,” he said.
The registrar urged stakeholders in the education sector to take ownership of the system and strengthen it as drivers of Nigeria’s growth and independence.
