JUST IN: Senate Approves Emergency Declaration in Rivers State

The Senate gave its approval for the state of emergency in Rivers State, a measure imposed by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday.

This decision came during a closed-door session where lawmakers discussed the emergency declaration as well as the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and other elected officials.

The private session was initiated after Senate President Godswill Akpabio presented a letter from President Tinubu during the plenary. Following this, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele proposed a motion to move into a closed session in accordance with Order 135 of the Senate’s rules, which was seconded by Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro.
