Kaduna Security: DSS Destroys Gunrunning Network, Arrests Three Suspects.
The Department of State Services (DSS) has successfully apprehended three suspected gunrunners involved in supplying arms and ammunition to bandits in Kaduna State. The arrests occurred during coordinated sting operations carried out in Igabi and Kachia local government areas.
According to the DSS, one of the suspects, a 30-year-old man, was intercepted along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Bypass in Igabi. He was found transporting a cache of dangerous weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, a PKT machine gun, over 200 rounds of live ammunition, and four empty magazines hidden inside sacks of maize. The other two suspects were arrested at Doka village in Kachia, along the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway, while attempting to traffic three AK-47 rifles in a Volkswagen Golf car to bandits.
The arrests have been praised by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, who commended the DSS for their diligent operations. He emphasized that under his administration’s peace and security strategies, there would be no safe haven for criminals. Through his Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shuaibu, Governor Sani also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the DSS Director-General for their ongoing support in securing Kaduna.
The governor further highlighted the effectiveness of the non-kinetic peace approach introduced by his administration, which has significantly reduced crime rates across the state. He issued a stern warning to criminal elements to cease their illicit activities, warning that the government would not tolerate any attempts to undermine the state’s stability.
Meanwhile, the DSS confirmed that investigations into the arrests are still ongoing and assured the public that the suspects would be prosecuted under the full extent of the law. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to combating arms trafficking and ensuring Kaduna does not become a conduit for illegal weapons, emphasizing its resolve to curb insecurity and restore lasting peace in the region.
