Kaduna’s 785 Road Projects Boost Healthcare Access, Says Commissioner.
Kaduna State Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, has highlighted the significant impact of the 785 road projects carried out by Governor Uba Sani’s administration over the past two years, particularly in improving health services across the state. Maiyaki emphasized that rural road development and nutrition investments are deliberate strategies aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery.
Speaking in Zaria during a high-level Kaduna State–UNICEF engagement with media professionals, Maiyaki explained that infrastructure and nutrition funding are key drivers of health improvements. He pointed out that the expanded rural road networks have reduced travel time to primary healthcare centers, facilitated emergency referrals, and ensured last-mile delivery of essential medicines. These developments have made healthcare more accessible, especially in remote areas.
Additionally, Kaduna’s ₦750 million investment in Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) has bolstered child nutrition and survival, particularly in underserved communities. The initiative has facilitated early detection and treatment of severe acute malnutrition, reinforced primary healthcare nutrition services, and decreased dependence on donor aid.
The commissioner noted that Kaduna is the first Nigerian sub-national government to allocate domestic resources at such a scale for RUTF, demonstrating a strong commitment to child health. These efforts have supported routine immunizations, antenatal care, and community outreach programs, further improving health outcomes.
The high-level engagement, organized by the Kaduna Ministry of Information in collaboration with UNICEF, aimed to strengthen media partnerships for disseminating accurate and timely health information. Maiyaki stressed the vital role of the media in connecting communities to health services, especially when nutrition is prioritized, as it helps children survive and thrive.
Under Governor Uba Sani’s leadership, Maiyaki concluded, Kaduna’s strategic investments in infrastructure, nutrition, and communication are translating into tangible health benefits, positively impacting residents’ lives across the state.
