A large crowd attended the funeral prayers for the late Galadiman Kano, Abbas Sunusi, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, New Nigeria People’s Party presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso, and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II. The revered kingmaker, who died at the age of 91 on Tuesday night following a prolonged illness, was honored by numerous notable figures during the ceremony.
The prayers were officiated by Professor Sani Zahradeen, the Chief Imam of Kano, alongside other distinguished guests. Abbas Sunusi’s eldest son, Abbas Sanusi, who serves as the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, attended the funeral with fellow party executives.
A significant figure within the Emirate, Abbas Sunusi held the titles of Wamban Kano and senior councilor and served under the late Emir Alhaji Ado Bayero, who ruled from 1963 to 2020. He is survived by his wives and 35 children, including his son Abdullahi Abbas, the current APC chairman in Kano State.
Key figures present at the burial at Gandun Albasa graveyard included Governor Yusuf, Deputy President of the Senate Barau Jibrin, and Nasiru Aliko Koki, representing APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, along with many others.
