Kenya Tops African Countries in 2024 Olympics, Nigeria Absent from Medal Table

In a thrilling conclusion to the 2024 Olympic Games, the United States narrowly secured the top spot at the 2024 Olympic Games, winning 40 gold medals and a total of 126 medals overall. China came in second, also with 40 gold medals, but fewer silver medals (27 to the US’s 44).

The US women’s basketball team played a crucial role in securing their country’s victory, defeating host nation France in the final gold medal event of the Games.

Japan took third place with 20 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze medals, while Australia finished fourth with 18 gold, 19 silver, and 16 bronze medals. Host nation France rounded out the top five with 16 gold, 26 silver, and 22 bronze medals.

On the African front, Kenya led the pack with a total of 11 medals (four gold, two silver, and five bronze), finishing 17th overall. Other African nations that made the medal table include Algeria (joint 39th), South Africa (joint 44th), Ethiopia (47th), Egypt (joint 52nd), Tunisia (joint 52nd), Botswana (joint 55th), Uganda (joint 55th), Morocco (60th), Côte d’Ivoire (84th), Cape Verde (84th), and Zambia (84th).

Nigeria did not secure any medals at the Games, which featured 205 participating countries.

The next edition of the Olympics is set to take place in Los Angeles, USA, in 2028.
