King Charles III Strips Prince Andrew of Titles and Orders Him to Leave Windsor Estate Amid Epstein Scandal
King Charles III is taking decisive action against his younger brother, Prince Andrew, amid ongoing scandal linked to the Jeffrey Epstein case. The palace announced on Thursday that Andrew will be stripped of his royal titles and removed from his long-term residence on the Windsor estate.
“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” Buckingham Palace stated, confirming that Charles has begun the formal process to revoke all of his brother’s titles. Andrew has also been instructed to vacate his residence on Windsor Castle’s grounds and will relocate to alternative private accommodation as soon as possible.
This move follows a surge of public outrage and renewed allegations of sexual assault by one of Epstein’s primary accusers, Virginia Giuffre, against the 65-year-old prince. Andrew has denied the charges, which include claims that he trafficked Giuffre for sex three times, including twice when she was only 17. Giuffre, who died by suicide in April at age 41, had previously spoken out about her experiences, and her family welcomed the royal’s removal from his titles, calling it a victory for justice.
The palace emphasized that these measures are necessary despite Andrew’s denials, stating, “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been with the victims and survivors of abuse.”
Andrew’s decision to accept the royal revocation reportedly was made without objection, and the UK government was consulted during the process. The development comes days after Giuffre’s memoir was published, in which she detailed her trafficking experiences with Andrew.
In 2022, Andrew settled a civil sexual assault case with Giuffre by paying millions of dollars, though he has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. Recent revelations also exposed that Andrew paid minimal rent for over two decades for his Royal Lodge residence, a property owned by the Crown Estate, under a 2003 deal.
The move to remove Andrew from Windsor’s Royal Lodge has gained momentum, especially with Prince William and his family preparing to move nearby. Additionally, reports surfaced that Andrew hosted Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Harvey Weinstein at the Lodge in 2006 for his daughter Beatrice’s 18th birthday.
Public sentiment remains tense, with incidents such as a heckler shouting at King Charles during a recent visit to a cathedral, questioning his awareness of Andrew’s association with Epstein.
Andrew has reportedly refused to leave the Royal Lodge unless he can move into Frogmore Cottage, and has demanded that Ferguson be allowed to relocate to Adelaide Cottage. However, it is now understood that he will move to the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, funded privately by King Charles.
Ferguson is expected to make her own arrangements, while Andrew’s daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, will retain their royal titles.
