Kwara Man, Abdulateef, Commits Suicide by Jumping into Well in Ilorin; Fire Service Raises Awareness on Mental Health

A 31-year-old man, Abdulateef, took his own life early yesterday morning by jumping into a deep well at Bolarinwa Compound in the Centre Igboro area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

 

Kwara State Fire Service spokesperson Hassan Akeem confirmed that his body was retrieved from the well several hours after the incident.

 

In a statement, Akeem said, “On Sunday, 23rd November 2025, at 04:33hrs, the Kwara State Fire Service responded to a distress call for a rescue operation at Bolarinwa Compound, Centre Igboro Area, Ilorin.

 

“Upon arrival, firefighters found that a 31-year-old man named Abdulateef had deliberately jumped into a domestic well. Investigations revealed he had been making repeated suicide attempts since the previous day.

 

“He carried out his final act while other residents were asleep, leaving no one available to prevent it, which resulted in his death.

 

“Firefighters conducted a professional recovery operation, and his body was handed over to the head of the family, Alhaji Bolarinwa.”

 

The fire service also urged the public to be vigilant and attentive to signs of distress or suicidal tendencies in loved ones, emphasizing that early intervention and close monitoring can help prevent such tragic events.
