Lagos Assembly Focuses on Security, Healthcare, Education in Budget Review.
Lagos State Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa has emphasized that the proposed N4.237 trillion 2026 budget must prioritize the needs of residents and foster inclusive growth. Speaking during Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s presentation of the “Budget of Shared Prosperity” at the Assembly complex, Obasa stressed that the budget should strengthen economic resilience, improve welfare, enhance security, and support sustainable infrastructure development across Lagos.
Obasa highlighted that Lagos’s current progress is a result of the hard work, creativity, and laws that encourage innovation among its people. Reflecting on the Assembly’s achievements, he noted that over the past decade, the legislature has enacted more than 100 laws and passed over 1,500 resolutions aimed at improving governance and residents’ lives.
He commended Governor Sanwo-Olu and his team for presenting a comprehensive fiscal plan aligned with Lagos’s growth objectives. Obasa emphasized that the state’s strength lies in unity, strategic planning, inclusive policies, and governance rooted in respect for human rights. “Our progress is built not on arrogance but on collective effort, sophistication, and a forward-looking vision,” he said, urging lawmakers to ensure the budget reflects these principles.
The Speaker also praised the Assembly’s support for laws that promote socio-economic development, strengthen local governments, and improve institutional frameworks for effective governance. He lauded the governor’s resilience in navigating economic challenges while maintaining key infrastructural projects that reinforce Lagos’s position as an economic hub.
Obasa noted that the proposed budget prioritizes sectors such as healthcare, education, transportation, security, and governance—areas critical for sustainable development. He urged legislators to thoroughly review the bill to ensure it benefits Lagos residents. Concluding, Obasa expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, acknowledging the positive impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda on the nation.
