Lagos Government Dismantles Unauthorized Constructions Along Lekki Waterfronts
The Lagos State Government, via the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development (MWID), has intensified its enforcement actions at the Okunde Bluewater Scheme along the Lekki Coastal Road. This latest initiative targeted the removal of illegal occupants and the dismantling of recently established shanties in the region.
The operation, which took place earlier on Friday, was spearheaded by Commissioner Ekundayo Alebiosu. He indicated that the effort builds upon previous clean-up initiatives and serves as a strong warning to anyone attempting to re-establish unauthorized structures on government-owned land.
“Last year, we cleared this extensive area, and we are no longer allowing business as usual,” Alebiosu remarked. “Any attempts to reconstruct shanties or makeshift structures will face immediate enforcement action. These structures not only present environmental concerns but also significant security threats. Additionally, they contradict the principles of the Lagos State Mega City Master Plan.”
The Commissioner reaffirmed the State Government’s dedication to reclaiming and effectively utilizing the area for the development of a premier Bluewater Scheme and a coastal road network that will benefit the community.
Alebiosu also highlighted the importance of ongoing monitoring and periodic enforcement to maintain the integrity of the cleared land. He stressed that the advancements achieved during the ministry’s reclamation effort last September would not be compromised.
“MWID is committed to securing and enhancing all government-owned waterfronts throughout Lagos State, in line with the vision of a clean, secure, and globally competitive Mega City,” he concluded.
