Lagos State Government Commits to Adopting Solar Energy to Tackle Emissions

Lagos State Government has announced its commitment to adopting solar energy across the state in order to reduce emissions. The energy sector has been identified as the highest-ranking source of emissions in the state, according to the last emission inventory.

The announcement was made by Tajudeen Gaji, Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, at a recent workshop held at the Protea Hotel, Alausa, Ikeja. Gaji said that the adoption of solar renewables was recommended in the Lagos Climate Action Plan and that the plan had been examined in detail. He added that it would require everyone’s commitment to put Lagos on the emission reduction trajectory and take global actions.

Lagos Urban Development Initiative has been consulted to come up with the business and financial models to deliver the project. A variety of approaches, including the inception report, stakeholder mapping, and bilateral engagements were used to develop the models.

It is important for Lagos State to take action to reduce emissions and protect the environment. The adoption of solar energy is a step in the right direction.
