LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT ORGANIZES SENSITISATION PROGRAM FOR PUPILS ON THEIR RIGHTS, URGES THEM TO REPORT CASES OF ABUSE

Lagos State Government has urged pupils in the state schools to report cases of abuses, whether they happened to them.

Director, Citizens Rights of the Ministry of Justice, Ms. Adetutu Oshinusi, who gave the advice, also urged the pupils to know their rights and be ready to defend them when infringed upon.

Ms. Oshinusi stated this yesterday at a sensitization program for students of Ijegun Community Primary School.

The sensitization campaign is in furtherance of One Stop Child Justice Center, an initiative of the Directorate of Citizens Right, aimed at reducing the spate of child abuse in the state and ensuring that minors are protected from abusers.

The director said there is a solid framework for the fundamental human rights of the young pupils, and they have enough protection against all forms of abuse in the Constitution.

“The Directorate for Citizens’ Rights is responsible for the protection and enforcement of fundamental human rights of residents of Lagos State.

One of its units under the Directorate is ‘One Stop Child Justice Center, which handles all child-related matters together with other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of Government like the Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Youth and Social Development, among others.”

She said the Department of Citizens Rights will continue to protect the rights of children as provided under the Child Rights Law of Lagos State, 2015.
