Lagos Supports CreditPRO’s #EndPlasticPollution Campaign to Tackle Plastic Waste and Promote Sustainable Living
The Lagos State Government has expressed support for CreditPRO’s initiative aimed at combating plastic pollution within the state.
This endorsement coincides with the finance company’s reaffirmation of its dedication to environmental sustainability through the official launch of its #EndPlasticPollution campaign—a community-driven effort promoting responsible plastic waste management and eco-friendly living across Lagos.
A statement released on Monday highlighted that the campaign, which received backing from the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), was inaugurated on Saturday at the Chief Anthony Enahoro Housing Estate in Ogba.
The statement quoted Dr. Oreoluewa Finnih, the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, who was represented by Technical Special Assistant Michael Folorunsho. Finnih commended the initiative as timely and impactful, noting that it “aligns with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities)” and advances Lagos’s vision for a cleaner, more resilient environment.
To kick off the campaign, CreditPRO donated plastic collection bins to select communities, including the Chief Anthony Enahoro Housing Estate and George Crescent Estate in Ogba. This marks the beginning of a citywide effort to promote waste segregation and recycling at the community level.
Dr. Sola Adeyiga, CreditPRO’s Managing Director, emphasized that the initiative reflects the company’s belief that business success and environmental responsibility are inherently linked. “The sustainability of a business depends on a healthy environment. This is beyond corporate social responsibility—it’s our purpose,” Adeyiga stated.
Olabisi Shonibare, Director of Partnership, Grant Management, and Innovation at LASEPA, also praised the collaboration, describing plastic pollution as one of Lagos’s most urgent environmental issues.
In recent efforts to address plastic waste, Lagos has taken significant steps, including a complete ban on single-use plastics such as styrofoam, plastic cutlery, straws, and thin nylon bags under 40 microns.
Additionally, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) announced on X (formerly Twitter) that its recycling team continues to engage communities across the city, encouraging residents to adopt simple recycling habits that can earn rewards and contribute to a cleaner Lagos.
