LEADERSHIP TUSSLE IN ILAWO COMMUNITY OF OGUN STATE LEAVES SEVERAL INJURED AS HOODLUMS ATTACK, MACHETE RESIDENTS

There was Tension and Chaos in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Saturday when hoodlums armed with dangerous objects reportedly invaded Ilawo community of the state and injured some residents.

The hoodlums stormed the community to attack residents over the controversies on the installation of the new monarch of the Orile-Ilawo community.

The residents had stormed the palace of the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Osile of Oke Ona, the Ogun State Governor’s office, and other notable places in the state to protest against the choice of McGregor as the Oba-elect of Ilawo, describing the process as an imposition.

It was, however, gathered that many of the aggrieved residents were attacked by the hoodlums.

Different videos obtained by our correspondent showed that no fewer than five persons were macheted and Left in a pool of their blood during the attacks.

It was learned that the injured victims were presently at a private hospital in the community receiving treatment.

One of the chiefs identified as Olaogun Banji said he was attacked and narrowly escaped death.

He said, “it was the head of the council that called me. I was about to enter my car when the hoodlums attacked me. They were plenty, and they said my offense was because I did not support McGregor as the next king of Ilawo.

“It was some residents in the area that helped me, I hid in their building for more than three hours.

When contacted, the Ogun State Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

Oyeyemi said some arrests were made during the violence.

He, however, said the monarch had waded into the matter and secured the release of the suspects on bail.
