Mass Prison Break in Niger: Hundreds of Boko Haram Militants Escape

In a shocking incident, hundreds of Boko Haram militants, alongside other criminals and drug traffickers, have reportedly escaped from Koutoukalé prison in Niger Republic. The prison, situated near the capital city of Niamey, was overtaken during a violent mutiny on Thursday, allowing inmates to seize weapons and vehicles.

Eyewitnesses recounted hearing gunshots and explosions from within the prison around midday, which prompted an immediate response from security forces. However, by the time authorities arrived, the inmates had already overpowered the guards and breached the prison’s defenses, including armored gates, barbed wire, and trenches.

The country’s Interior Minister has confirmed the escape through a radio message sent to all regional governors, urging village chiefs and religious leaders to report any suspicious activities. “We have mobilized all necessary resources to track down the escapees and bring them to justice,” the minister said.

Local residents are on edge, with heightened security measures in place and a robust search operation underway to locate and recapture the escapees. The government has called for public vigilance and cooperation to ensure the safety and security of the region.
