Mayflower Private School Commemorates Founders’ Legacy with Inaugural Posthumous 10km Birthday Marathon

In a tribute to its founding father and mother, Tai Solarin and Sheila Mary Tuer. Mayflower Private School hosted her first-ever Posthumous 10 km Birthday Marathon in Ikenne Remo, Ogun State.
The event, which took place on Wednesday, 24th of July 2024, drew approximately 50 athletes competing for top honors and a chance to participate in the National Youth Games in Delta State, with potential scholarship opportunities also at stake.
Proprietor Tunde Solarin and Proprietress Corin Solarin were lauded for their instrumental role in organizing the marathon, while Coach Olawale, who conceived the idea, expressed his gratitude to all parties involved. Furthermore, the school’s commitment to making this an annual event was underscored by Isa Idoko Francis, Vice Principal of the Boarding Division, who declared, “There’s no going back.”
The marathon course was literally with ups and downs; however, the race saw Abubakar Mohammed emerge victorious in the male category, while Sofiat took top honors in the female category.
The event also featured motorcycles patrolling the course and medical teams on standby to ensure the safety of all participants. The winners are to receive certificates signed by Mr. Dupe, the Chief Coach, along with various prizes.
Moreover, Coach Olawale praised the collaborative efforts that made the marathon a success, expressing hope for future editions.
