Meet One of the Heroes of Yoruba Nollywood
Lots have seen the face, learnt one or two from the role they play on the screen; however little is known about our Yoruba SuperHeroes on our screen. Meet Dele Odule, a man who has not only won the hearts of the millennials, but as transcend to become father to the genZ generation.
Born 23 November in a town of Ile-Ife, Osun State, Dele Odule hails from Oru-Ijebu, Ogun State. He had his basic and secondary school education in Oru, proceeding to Teacher’s Training College, Oru where he got a Grade II Certificate before he proceeded to the University of Ibadan, Oyo State where he studied Theatre Arts.
Baba Dele is a Nigerian film actor and producer, best known for his acting roles in the Yoruba genre of Nollywood. He is someone who has always given his all to ensure a particular role is well portrayed to his best of his abilities. He made his first appearance on TV in 1982 with a drama group called Oloko Theatre Group under the mentorship of Mukaila Adebisi, before making his debut appearance in 1986. He came into limelight when he starred in Ti Oluwa Ni Ile. He has gone to feature, produced over 200 movies since then.
He was nominated in the “Best Supporting Actor (Yoruba)” category at the 2014 Best of Nollywood Awards for his role in the film Kori Koto. He also served as the President of the Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria.
Another Dele Odule award was the City People Movie Lifetime Achievement Award he won in 2017. Some of the Dele Odule movies include Oduduwa in 2000, Afonja in 2002, Olorire in 2003, Omo Ole in 2004, Eru Ife in 2005, The Ghost and the Tout in 2018 and the New Patriots in 2020.
His love of talents and education brought him to OOU Mass Communication during one of their project, where he featured in one of their practical – Not yet a full stop. He has boost many rising producing and artiste morale by starring in their movie. This act makes him one of the accessible, loving and ‘legend’ in the industry.
