Meet the Woman with the name of Many Color
Idowu Philips popularly known as Iya Rainbow is a veteran Nigeria Actress who is notably for her motherly role in Nollywood movies.
Iya Rainbow was born on 16 October 1942 in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Prophet Jacob Adebanjo Ifemade and Mrs Ifemade. She attended African Methodist School and Anglican Modern School for her primary and secondary education, before she then proceeded to be trained as a nurse afterwards.
Iya Rainbow usually worked as a healthcare assistant in general hospitals in Nigeria for several years and occasionally acted in theatre. Idowu ventured into full-time acting in the 1990s after the death of her husband – Augustine Ayanfemi Phillips (who worked closely with the late patriarch of Nigerian Film Industry Sir Herbert Ogunde).
She got her stage name ‘Iya Rainbow’ from the theatre group of Sir Hubert Ogunde, Osumare.
She has featured in and has appeared in hundreds of Nollywood English and Yoruba movies including Apaadi, Eru, and Aje ni iya mi among others. She is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with in the Yoruba movie industry and Nollywood.
She has also worked with a number of well-known and respected Nollywood actors and actresses, including Adebayo Salami, Ogogo, Odunlade Adekola, Yinka Quadri, Iya Awero, Jide Kosoko, and others.
Idowu Philips is a brand ambassador for Airtel, Yotomi Golden Estate, a low cost housing estate project, initiated by the late movie mogul Alade Aromire.
