Minister of Solid Minerals Vows to Crack Down on Illegal Explosives Possession
The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Oladele Alake, expressed deep concern over the Ibadan explosion in Oyo state on January 16. Offering condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo state, Alake pledged to intensify efforts against those illegally acquiring and storing explosives if the incident was linked to mining explosive devices.
In his words: “If the explosion was caused by mining explosives devices as earlier reported, the ministry will double its effort to tighten the noose around those acquiring explosives and storing them illegally.”
He directed ministry mine officers on-site in Ibadan to contribute to ongoing investigations into the explosion’s causes.
