Missing Pregnant Woman Found in Kwara After Faking Abduction, Says Ogun Police
The Ogun State Police Command has reported that a pregnant woman, Rahemat Lateef, who was presumed abducted, had faked her own kidnapping.
The incident, initially reported as a case of abduction by unknown gunmen while she was on her way to the state hospital at Ijaiye, Abeokuta, turned out to be a staged act.
According to the state police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, who disclosed the information on her X handle on Monday, Lateef had concocted the abduction story after discovering she had suffered another miscarriage. She feared her husband’s reaction and decided to escape to Kwara State.
“Rahemat Lateef, who her husband reported as abducted, was never actually kidnapped,” Odutola stated. “She planned her journey to Kwara State to avoid her husband’s wrath, having experienced repeated miscarriages. She created the abduction narrative and traveled to Kwara State on her own. The anti-kidnapping team tracked her until she reappeared in Abeokuta with her father.”
Odutola added, “She is currently under medical attention and is safe.”
The saga began last Thursday when Rahemat’s husband, Ogunbunmi Lateef, reported receiving a WhatsApp message indicating his wife’s abduction by armed men. The police initially treated the case as a genuine kidnapping and launched an investigation.
In a post on her X handle, Odutola had confirmed the initial report: “One Ogunbunmi Lateef of Oke Lantoro reported that his pregnant wife, due for delivery, left home for the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta. He received a WhatsApp message confirming the abduction of his wife by unknown armed men.”
The Ogun State Police Command continues to investigate and provide support for Rahemat Lateef as she recovers.
