MTN Nigeria Announces Scheduled Network Maintenance in Northern States to Enhance Connectivity
Telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria has announced that it will conduct scheduled network maintenance on Friday, October 25, resulting in temporary disruptions across parts of Adamawa, Borno, and Kano States.
In a statement released on Tuesday, MTN said the two-hour maintenance window—from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.—will impact 101 network sites spanning 15 Local Government Areas (LGAs) within the three northern states.
The company explained that this exercise is part of its ongoing efforts to improve network reliability and bolster fiber infrastructure in the region.
“This planned maintenance is a continuation of the restoration work initiated in August 2025 along the same route. It aims to deliver stronger, more resilient connections for customers in the affected areas,” MTN stated.
The operation involves a fiber cutover on a recently relocated cable segment between AFCOT and Bawo village, replacing damaged spans and reducing multiple joints that have compromised optical performance and overall network stability.
MTN described the maintenance as a vital component of a comprehensive network upgrade designed to eliminate recurring faults and enhance connectivity for users in northern Nigeria.
The affected areas include Nasarawa LGA in Kano State; Girei, Song, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Fufore, Mubi South, Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Chibok, and Yola North in Adamawa State; and Askira/Uba and Shani in Borno State.
During the maintenance period, services on 2G, 3G, and 4G networks, along with 10 enterprise connections, will be temporarily unavailable due to the unprotected nature of the fiber route.
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate our customers’ understanding as we work to deliver a more stable and efficient network,” the statement concluded.
MTN assured that connectivity will be fully restored immediately after the maintenance window and reaffirmed its commitment to improving network quality, uptime, and resilience across underserved regions of Nigeria.
