NANS Ogun State Chapter Raises Alarm Over Influx of Arms and Ammunition Through Land Borders

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has raised an alarm over the alleged influx of arms and ammunition through Nigeria’s land borders. In a statement released on Thursday, the NANS Ogun State Chapter expressed concern over the unchecked inflow of arms into the country, calling on the government to immediately order tight security around borders across the country. Reports have revealed that ammunitions were smuggled in through Ogun state land borders.

The statement, which was signed by the Chairman, NANS Joint Campus Committee, Damilola Simeon, and the secretary of the committee, Ogunrombi Gbemileke, accused the Nigeria Customs Services, Ogun Area 1 Command, of failing to curb the illicit trade, jeopardizing the security and safety of the Nigerian people. The statement also referenced the recent apprehension of a truck loaded with dangerous firearms by the Nigerian Army along Ajilete-Owode Road in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, mere kilometers away from the porous land border.

The NANS Ogun State Chapter’s call for the government to order tight security around borders across the country is necessary to ensure the safety of Nigerians. The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area Command, must take responsibility and curb this illicit trade.

The Nigerian Army’s recent apprehension of a truck loaded with dangerous firearms near the porous land border is proof of the severity of this issue.
