National Orientation Agency (NOA): Denounces Violence in Kebbi and Kwara, Urges Nigerians to Assist Security Efforts.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has strongly condemned recent security incidents in Nigeria, including the abduction of 25 students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Kebbi State and an attack on worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State. In a statement issued on Thursday, NOA Director-General Lanre Issa-Onilu described the Kebbi school abduction as a “reprehensible act” that violates children’s rights to safety and education. He emphasized that such acts threaten Nigeria’s efforts to promote access to quality education, especially for girls, and reaffirmed the importance of maintaining schools as safe environments.
Issa-Onilu also condemned the attack on Christian worshippers in Kwara State, calling it “senseless and unacceptable.” He warned that such violence undermines the peace, unity, and religious harmony Nigeria has strived to build. The DG stressed that freedom of worship is a fundamental constitutional right, and any act of intimidation or violence targeting citizens based on faith is both unlawful and unpatriotic.
The NOA leader assured Nigerians that, under President Bola Tinubu’s directives, security agencies are actively working to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students and the victims of the attack. He noted that the agency’s monthly national security briefings are aimed at keeping the public informed about ongoing efforts and progress made by security forces across the country.
Furthermore, Issa-Onilu called on Nigerians to support security agencies by providing timely and actionable information that could help protect lives and prevent further attacks. He urged citizens’ cooperation, emphasizing that community involvement is vital in safeguarding Nigeria’s peace and security.
