NDLEA Commander Raises Alarm Over Rising Illicit Drug Use in Oyo State
The Narcotics Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Oyo State, Mr. Olayinka Joe-Fadile, has raised concerns regarding the rampant use of illegal drugs within the state.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta, Ogun State, during the “Public Destruction of Drug Exhibits” event held in Ipara, Joe-Fadile highlighted the alarming rise in cannabis consumption, particularly a potent strain known as “loud,” which includes varieties like Scottish Loud, Canadian Loud, and Arizona Loud.
“These loud variants are not only more expensive but also significantly more harmful than regular cannabis,” he warned, emphasizing that these substances contribute to a slow and painful decline in health.
Joe-Fadile urged the youth, who are poised to become the nation’s future leaders, to steer clear of drugs. “While you may feel inspired by these substances now, they will ultimately lead to a painful demise,” he said.
He further noted the collaborative efforts of security agencies in combating drug trafficking, underscoring that the recent destruction of 1.6 million kilograms of illicit drugs was a collective achievement.
In the past, each command would independently dispose of its drug exhibits. However, in a strategic move, the commands from Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos States, along with others from Zones 9 and 11, came together for this joint exercise. The participating commands included the Lagos Strategic Command, Ogun Command, Oyo State Command, Murtala Mohammed International Airport Command, Lagos Seaports, Idiroko Border Command, and Seme Command.
